Professor Rene Alt passed away on 28th April 2017
Abstract
Message from his PhD studentsWe are deeply saddened to inform you that Rene Alt passed away onВ April 28th. He was Emeritus Professor in the Computer ScienceВ laboratory of Pierre & Marie Curie University (UPMC) in Paris. He wasВ former Vice-President of UPMC. His research activities were centeredВ around probabilistic approaches for the numerical validation ofВ software. He was interested in various sujects such as numericalВ analysis, statistics, probability, high performance computing, andВ medical imaging. Open to the others, Rene had developed internationalВ collaborations, in particular with the team leaded by Svetoslav MarkovВ in the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. He had organized conferencesВ such as SCAN, the international symposium on Scientific Computing,В Computer Arithmetic and Validated Numerics, in 2002 in Paris.В Rene'sВ death is a great loss to all of us who had the chance to work withВ him. His vast culture was leading to very fruitful discussions. WeВ will miss his generosity and his kindness. Our thoughts go to hisВ family, especially his spouse and his son.
